In a Bad Way

(St Etienne, 1992)

There will be more photos still to come, but here is a little idea of the task ahead.

First, the kitchen. Look at those lovely floor tiles..

Next, the garden. We have yet to make it to the far end. Machete anyone?

Upstairs, the front room on the first floor, some of the original wooden window frames

And on the second floor, a bit of work to do on the roof:

That's all for now, more to follow...

Hi,

I'm Alice's (Brusselsstyle) husband, and chief renovator of our lovely apartment in Schaerbeek - once we can get things moving again! I'll follow your progress with interest ...

Looks like you've found a real gem - best of luck with it. Let me know if I can be of any help with what (little) we've learned from our works and what friends of ours have found.

If you're interested, I can find you the details of a German company that makes period Bakelite & porcelain electrical fittings like the ones you have - a bit pricey but they look absolutely fantastic!

Thanks Matt, and nice to meet you, as it were,

Neither of us has much experience of DIY, so we were totally in awe of seeing what you had done yourselves. Will definitely get back to you for some tips, good suppliers, especially the one you mention, which sounds great.

Hope you find a solution to your current problems soon, and can get back to the fun bit!

All the best,

G

Hello,

The company I mentioned is Thomas Hoof

Really gorgeous stuff if you want to go to town on the period look. I think Legrande do a range as well, but I don't have the details ...

Thanks Matt! Great find. Saved in my favourites and will certainly look them up once we get to that stage.

Love your blog. I have a friend who owns an old house in Brussels who is looking to exchange discounted (very) rent for someone who is interesting in a renovation project. Know anyone interesting please send me an email at nickatz@btopenworld.com
